Mario Brothers was one of the first Mario games (I can't remember if DK2 or DK3 came out before it, so I won't call it the second). It was the first game to give Mario a real name, it established the basic 2D Mario gameplay SMB would build off of, and it was the first game to feature Luigi.

The goal of the game is to kill enemies and gather the reward coins. Yes, this gets old quick... but I enjoyed it when I was younger. The only time I could see playing it now is during a game of SMB3: with your turn on the line, the game suddenly becomes much more interesting.
